Gift Certificate Messages are limited to 255 characters. Once you add the card to your cart, you may see your message is truncated. Simply roll over the message in the cart and you will see the full message.
You can also send the Gift Certificate to yourself and give it to the recipient at a later date - just forward the email you receive to the intended recipient, or print it out and give it to them - the recipient can then use it at any time by simply typing the Gift Certificate Number(s) in the "Gift Cards" field in the shopping cart.
